Wrap around, holistic support services

Our Tūmatakahuki team provides whānau-led wrap-around social support — from advocacy, cultural connection, health and social services to whānau navigation, transitional housing, mental health and navigating community and social services. We walk alongside whānau, help build your network and enhance your mana so you have all the tools and resources in your kete to succeed.

Grounded in our values — aroha, rangatiratanga, wairuatanga and manaakitanga — our mahi embodies the pā harakeke, which places tamariki and their whānau at the centre of all decision-making and individualised planning. This ensures whānau are the leaders of their hauora journeys.

Transitional Housing

Our transitional housing, offered to young parents, not only provides a safe, warm and healthy whare for young whānau, but also builds a community within. In addition, our transitional housing services provide housing pathways so whānau feel ready to rent and sustain a home.

A Whānau Journey

For one young māmā supported by Ki Tua o Matariki, the journey toward stable housing involved navigating legal processes, healthcare support, financial pressure, parenting responsibilities, and the day-to-day realities of caring for her pēpi — all at the same time.

After returning to her grandmother’s home for support, she began working alongside kaimahi to access legal advice, healthcare support, housing advocacy, and practical assistance as she prepared for the next stage of life with her baby.

Over time, kaimahi supported her to attend MSD appointments, connect with housing services, access kai support and baby clothing, participate in parenting wānanga, and prepare for tenancy responsibilities through transitional housing.

When she was eventually offered a housing placement, she spoke about feeling excited to create a safe space for herself and her pēpi — even sharing hopes of building a small māra kai at her new home.

Alongside housing support, this young māmā also began reconnecting with wider community activities, including group walks, shared cooking sessions, and parenting programmes. At one point, she spoke about wanting to pass baby clothing on to another young mother in the community — a gesture that reflected the sense of connection and support she was beginning to build around herself and her pēpi.
